Kayaking On The Toccoa River
The Toccoa River is a great place to begin your kayaking journey. With enough rapids to make it challenging, but not so many as to make it dangerous, our six-mile stretch of the Toccoa River gives you all you need to have a great time while you learn the fundamentals of river kayaking. If you are a beginning or intermediate kayaker or just someone with a greater desire for speed and control on the river, try kayaking with Toccoa Valley Campground.
No Reservations Required!
Kaykers and Rafters are served on a first-come first serve basis.
Single Kayak: $40

What to Expect from a TVC Kayaking Trip
You will begin your kayak ride from our launch point at the campgrounds (about a twenty minute drive from downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia). Your kayak adventure will end (for this trip at least!) about six miles down the river at our private takeout area.
Under normal conditions, the river flows slowly and calmly, and you can pick up speed by paddling or take it easy while you learn how to maneuver your kayak in the easier waters. In a few places, however, the river picks up and surges around boulders, creating class I and II rapids that provide more thrilling kayaking conditions. You do not need to be an experienced kayaker to participate, but, just to be extra safe, children 12 and under are required to wear a (provided) life jacket at all times.
The float time varies depending on your experience, your pace, and, of course, water flow. Unless you paddle vigorously and shave off a few minutes, it takes about 2 hours to make it from our launch point to the clearly marked takeout area where you will board our free shuttle. After that, it takes about 7 minutes to shuttle back to where your vehicle is parked.
We have new full-service bathrooms available for your use, along with changing rooms so that you can change out of your wet swimsuits before you leave.
What We Provide:
- No Wait Time, Even Without a Reservation
Even with thousands of daily visitors, we have the capacity to get you on the river without the need to wait for others to finish their adventure. - Free Private Parking Area
If you go Kayaking at some other places, you might be parking on the side of the road and playing leap frog with traffic to get to your launch point. Not with us! At TVC, come and park at our large private parking area a short (and completely safe) walk under the roadway to the river launch point. - Changing Rooms and Full-Service Bathrooms
We provide full changing rooms and new, full-service bathrooms. At TVC, you won’t need to change out of your wet swimsuit in your car or suffer the primitive “charms” of a sun-baked porta-john. - Variable-Size Kayaks
Choose between single and double kayaks. You may also bring your own kayak, and we will launch it for you (all parking, shuttle, and amenities included). - Life Jackets
Life jackets are issued to everyone, and children 12 and under must wear life jackets at all times in the river. - Free Shuttle
We provide a free shuttle ride back from our privately-owned takeout area to your parked vehicle. - TVC Store
In case you forgot something, we carry many must-have items at our store: sunscreen, water shoes, hats, dry bags, snacks, drinks, and more!
What to Bring:
- Swimsuits
- Sunscreen
- Water Bottles
- Water Shoes
What Not to Bring
- Coolers/Alcohol
Alcohol is strictly prohibited at TVC, and coolers are not allowed on the river. We strive to create a safe, family environment free from potential sources of disturbance. We don’t allow alcohol on the campgrounds or on the river for this reason, and we are vigilant to cultivate a peaceful and wholesome environment for you and your family at all times. - Personal Items/Purses/Bags
We will hold your car keys, cell phones, and wallets for you, but we do not have the space to hold purses or bags.
